Jonathan
C. Windle represents clients concerning their estate planning,
estates and trusts administration, and family law matters. By
handling both the planning and administration Estates and Trust
ends of the spectrum, Mr. Windle understands the impact of the
planning structures that have been put into place, and he is able
to provide his clients with the benefit of his experience. These
matters involve planning situations from the contexts of not only
tax planning but also dealing with personal/family issues that
need to be addressed.
In addition to the use of traditional tax planning vehicles such
as bypass trusts and marital trusts, this work often climbs the
ladder of complexity and includes the analysis and establishment
of structures such as irrevocable life insurance trusts, family
limited partnerships, charitable trusts, personal residence trusts,
trusts to receive retirement benefits, and grantor retained annuity
trusts. However, Mr. Windle believes that while it is essential
to have the technical knowledge, it is just as important to be
a good listener and understand the client's goals, both tax and
non-tax.
The "typical" client is someone who owns a closely held
business or professional practice, and includes real estate professionals,
operators of fast food restaurants, stockbrokers, insurance executives,
physicians and engineers. In the area of estates and trusts administration,
Mr. Windle has experience in the regular and ongoing handling
of probate matters, preparation of federal estate tax returns
and preparation of fiduciary income tax returns.
Mr. Windle has negotiated complex property settlement agreements
in his family law practice where the valuation and division of
substantial assets including businesses, partnerships, professional
practices, investments and retirement plans are in dispute. He
has negotiated complex pre- and ante-nuptial agreements dealing
with property, testamentary, marital property and alimony issues.
